Good evening Tomahawks and welcome to week two! What a fantastic start to the year. I am sure everyone was exhausted on Friday. Be sure to use your weekends to re-group, rest and catch up on any homework or reading. Set goals this year to get your work completed in a timely manner. Parents, you can help by ensuring your students has a quiet space to work on homework. Be sure to monitor their time on the Chromebook. As we have experienced, some students have a tendency to wander onto game sites. Please be sure to limit this. Our teachers are able to monitor screen time through DyKnow. This is an app provided by our TSC Tech Department. Many students have been shown how this app works in the classroom. We are going to be more vigilant in monitoring students this year.
Tips on helping your students be successful in middle school:
Get plenty of rest each night. Set a bedtime and remove all electronics from the area!
Plan a healthy breakfast for your child. Students may also purchase breakfast at school each morning.
Set a specific homework time and schedule. A healthy snack is recommended prior to beginning homework. It is also a good idea to build in some physical activity prior to beginning homework (15 min of physical activity at minimum).
Work with your child on his/her homework. Make sure they are close to you to ask questions if necessary.
Check their agendas nightly for assignments. Establish a routine of having your child write all the assignments in the provided agenda! You can also have them log into Canvas and PowerSchool to identify what homework has been assigned and when it is due. I recommend having them write it down each day. There are studies that show we remember more when we write it down. This will help them develop a good organizational habit.
Find a consistent place to charge the Chromebook each night!
A reminder that the building opens at 7:30 am each morning for students riding to school with parents. You should be dropping your student off at Door 15 located on the Southwest end of the building. Please remember to pull all the way forward to allow multiple drops at one time. Failing to do so creates a backup of cars. One other thing, the buses dropping off in the back near the parent drop off have the right of way at all times. You must yield to them!
This week our athletes begin competing. We hope to see you at one or more of our events. For a complete list of those events, go to our BGM Athletic page. Use this link: https://bgm.tsc.k12.in.us/
