Jenny Smith
Hello!
I am very excited to join the Battle Ground Middle School family to serve as school counselor. I was born and raised in Lafayette, graduating from Jeff High School and Purdue University. Currently, I reside in West Lafayette and am enjoying life as a foster parent. I have experience working in counseling and social work along with serving on the Board of Directors at Pride Lafayette, Inc. I am looking forward to working with the students, parents, and staff at Battle Ground Middle School. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any concerns, and I will assist in any way that I can.
WHY WOULD A STUDENT SEE A SCHOOL COUNSELOR?
A. Academic/Educational Counseling – Students sometimes have academic problems in areas including study habits, expectations, time management, organizational skills, and the level of the curriculum. A school counselor may assist students in exploring solutions to these and other academic problems.
B. Short-Term Personal Counseling – A school counselor may assist students to develop skills to interact more effectively with others as well as identify personal values, talents, and interests to help build confidence and success as they transition in and out of middle school. The school counselor will also provide support and assistance to students and families in crisis and can provide referrals to outside agencies for more extensive assistance including counseling, evaluations or treatment.
C. Career/Vocational Counseling – A school counselor may assist students in career exploration in preparing for high school and the world of work.
